20.3 million in EU funding for major flood protection project in Eisenach

On June 17, 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony took place for the Eisenach flood protection project—subproject "Inner-city expansion of flood protection in Eisenach, measure complex III."

Background:

The urban area of Eisenach currently has flood protection of about one twenty-year flood event (as of 2021). The aim is to expand flood protection to a hundred-year flood event. In the last ERDF funding period 2014-20, the measures (MK) I and partly also the MK II (1st construction phase) could already be structurally implemented on the basis of the flood protection concept. The completion of the flood protection in MK II [2nd construction phase (BA)] and the construction of the inner-city flood protection in Eisenach in MK III are very complex, so that they will be implemented in several phases in the 2021–2027 funding period and, if necessary, beyond. The beneficiary is the TLUBN on behalf of the Free State of Thuringia within the framework of state hydraulic engineering. The total costs (as of 31.01.2024) amount to approx. 33.8 million euros, of which 20.3 million euros are ERDF funds.
