25 million euro investment / Tiefensee: Strengthening Thuringia as a center for measurement and systems technology
On September 1, Thuringia's Minister of Science, Wolfgang Tiefensee, officially opened a new Fraunhofer Institute building in Ilmenau together with the President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Prof. Dr. Reimund Neugebauer. In the future, the Fraunhofer Institutes of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation - Applied Systems Technology Division (IOSB-AST) - and of Integrated Circuits - Department of Electronic Measurement Technology and Signal Processing (IIS-EMS) - will have their joint headquarters in the new building. The building was erected between 2015 and 2021 with only a slight excess of the planned construction time. The total costs amount to 25 million euros, of which the state contributed ten million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the remaining 15 million euros were borne equally by the federal government and the state.
