Groundbreaking ceremony at "In den Fichtlerswiesen" – Construction begins on the Microverse Center at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena
With a total cost of EUR 2.3 million, of which around EUR 2.2 million came from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the "In den Fichtlerswiesen" site in Jena has been developed as an extension of the Beutenberg campus. The areas, which have been newly developed from EU funds in terms of media and transport technology, serve the relocation of research areas. On the last free construction site "In den Fichtlerswiesen", construction work officially began with the groundbreaking ceremony on 26.08.2022 for the new building of the Microverse Center Jena.
In the future, researchers will study microorganisms and their relationship to the environment at the new research center and work together in fields such as microbiology, infection biology, bioinformatics and medicine. The new building is financed by funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Free State of Thuringia and a contribution from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. Completion and commissioning of the Microverse Center Jena is scheduled for 2024.
