Topping-out ceremony for the new campus building at Inselplatz in Jena

After the foundation stone for the new "Campus am Inselplatz" building in Jena was laid in September 2020, the largest university construction project in the Free State of Thuringia has reached another milestone. In the presence of numerous guests, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated on April 25, 2022. With the Institute of Psychology, the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, the "Natural Sciences and Pre-Clinic" location of the Thuringian University and State Library, a cafeteria and the new university computer center, several new university buildings are being built on the "Campus am Inselplatz". The city of Jena is also building a multi-storey car park.

A total of around 190 million euros will be invested in the new construction of the campus. In addition to co-financing with around 81 million euros from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), national co-financing is made up of state funds, federal funds and sales proceeds from state properties that become available. By the end of 2023, the University Computing Centre and the Faculty of Mathematics/Computer Science are to be completed in their entirety, and by 2024/25 the other buildings of the major project New Campus am Inselplatz are to be completed.
