On May 22, 2023, the topping-out ceremony for the new laboratory building at the Bauhaus University Weimar took place in the presence of, among others, the Minister for Economic Affairs, Science, and Digital Society, Wolfgang Tiefensee, and the State Secretary, Prof. Dr. Barbara Schönig, from the Thuringian Ministry of Infrastructure and Agriculture.
The laboratory building is part of the first construction phase of a comprehensive upgrade of the Coudraystraße 7–13 site, where the Civil Engineering Faculty will be concentrated in the future. The first construction phase also includes the renovation of the existing six-story building at Coudraystraße 7. The total cost amounts to around €44 million, of which €21.9 million . Approximately €18.2 million from state funds provided by the Free State of Thuringia, approximately €18.2 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and approximately €3.9 million from the Bauhaus University Weimar's own funds.
